It’s probably an understatement to say this season has been bleak. And unlike some fellow strugglers, we’ve been a colossal disappointment whichever way you cut the stats. We are, by far, the worst team in this division.

With relegation looking more and more likely despite a win this week, we thought it might be the right time to have a serious chat about next year’s season ticket prices.

Now, we know our current prices are already one of the cheaper options in the National League. But given we won’t be playing at that level for much longer, we can only give passing credit. (Cynics might argue we got what we paid for this term!)

With the way things have gone, the club really needs to have a hard think about how they’re going to the keep the price down – or better yet cut it –  for the season ahead and work to retain matchday attendance.

First off, let’s be clear – the performances this year have been shocking. Week in, week out, fans have been turning up just to be let down. It’s not just been about the results; it’s the lack of fight and the lack of passion that’s so desperately sad to watch. So many times we’ve lost games without ever hinting that we might want to take some points from the fixture. We’re writing this off the back of a win, too – so this is as positive as we’ve been in months.

We love this club, but it’s not difficult to understand how it’s increasingly hard for normal folks to justify shelling out hard-earned cash when we’ve only managed to put one or two good performances together this season.

Now, of course running a football club isn’t cheap and we all understand that. But if they want to keep fans coming through the turnstiles, they need to show us a bit of love in return. Cutting the season ticket prices would be a good start. It’d be a gesture that says, “We know it’s been tough, and we appreciate your support.”

With relegation almost certain, we’re going to be playing in a lower, but more local, league next season. That does mean there are more fixtures to attend for most people, and perhaps making them cheaper at home could be a good way to help boost travelling attendances and support the team next year.

The club made a real positive step making one game free for school-age kids this year. We’d like to see them build on that progress and make themselves a bigger part of the local community. Cutting prices for the campaign could help bring in more new fans, especially families who might be put off at the moment.

Let’s hope the club do the right thing. Cut the season ticket prices and give us something to be positive about. We’ve been there for you, now it’s time for you to be there for us. UTF.
